OMH stands for Open Market Handset – a CDMA industry initiative sponsored by CDG, and adopted by CDMA Operators, OEMs, ODMs, and other vendors worldwide - it allows subscribers the freedom to choose any CDMA device that is right for them and the ability to use that device on their favorite CDMA2000 operator's network, similar to the UMTS/GSM ecosystem.
The RUBI logo is the trademark sign for OMH – with a RUBI logo on the Operator’s SIM card, and on the handset packaging, you can be sure that the CDMA device you are purchasing will support data services, along with voice and SMS, on any OMH-approved CDMA network worldwide. That is what we call a truly OPEN or unlocked CDMA ecosystem. In fact, an OMH SIM card is similar to a GSM SIM card, except it is designed for CDMA networks.
CDMA subscribers were demanding more choice of handsets across more tiers, and the ability to easily change CDMA operators. By eliminating these challenges, OMH improves the customer experience of CDMA subscribers and extends the economic life of legacy CDMA networks. In addition to the subscriber benefits, OMH helps make more handsets available in more places by optimizing distribution and reducing inventory risk for device vendors and operators. Portfolio diversity provides subscribers with access to a broader range of data-enabled handsets that support email, social networking, IM, chat and web browsing. OMH creates more opportunities for subscribers to utilize these rich data services that help increase operator ARPU.
