Improved Time-to-Market

A global industry standard for OMH mobile devices provides for a one-time effort to deploy products for all OMH markets.

Reduced Cost

The ability to use a single product on multiple operator networks and in multiple markets will  reduce the costs associated with inventory, marketing, and customer support.

Improved Brand Recognition

The OMH-compliant brand will build recognition because products are available for use on multiple networks in multiple markets.

Open Business Model

The OMH-compliant brand has an open market to sell mobile devices to consumers, distributors, retailers, and operators. In addition, opportunities will open for the brand to develop marketing partnerships with network operators.

SUCCESS STORY: MICROMAX

Micromax is a successful brand in India that launched the first Indian OMH-compliant CDMA2000 phone. Micromax's use of OMH technology gives mobile customers the flexibility to buy a CDMA2000 handset and relevant SIM cards from the CDMA2000 operator of their choice.

"With our futuristic vision and commitment to deliver the best of technology to our customers, Micromax is proud to be the first Indian brand to have released the OMH handset." – Vikas Jain, Business Director, Micromax Informatics Ltd.

Open Market Handsets (OMH) is a CDG industry initiative focused on expanding access to a variety of CDMA handsets through open handset distribution. This open access is achieved through independence of OMH devices from operator-specific provisioning.

  • An OMH device operates seamlessly on any CDMA OMH operator network, including full subscription portability for voice, SMS, 1x data, EV-DO data, WAP, MMS, BREW, Java, and Location Based Services.
  • An OMH device exhibits proven quality, performance, and interoperability. One-time standards-based testing provides device certification for all OMH operators and markets.

Many Qualcomm chipsets support Open Market Handset features.
